At first I thought this machine was really sexy but after taking a long, hard look at the games and doing some research, decided not to buy it. This is a very low powered machine and the games for it are virtually all lame kiddy games for little girls and babies. The graphics are poor and outdated. Even the Korg DS-10 game just makes beeps and boops for sounds and is severely limited in capabilities, due to the severely low processing power of the machine. This is utterly worthless to me. I’ll go spend my money on some much better gadgets. I want products that push the boundaries and strive for excellence, not wallow in mediocrity and outdated technology.

Simply put, the Nintendo DS is a dying brand. Though the large screens of the DSi XL are great, they don’t make up for the boring, outdated features and graphics of the DS systems.
The feel of the XL in your hands is good, but the extra large width seems to crap my pinky fingers- depends on how you hold it. The system feels significantly heavier than DSi.
Experiencing the mature two-tone color first-hand feels like I’m playing a device designed specifically for seniors in a sense.
Overall, the Nintendo DSi XL is just a much broader experience than all of it’s predecessors sound and all. All existing DS games are breath new life into them on this system. The screens don’t have a pixelated look at all, but you can see each pixel more clearly if you look closely at the screen.
In a nut shell, this is just a bigger Nintendo DS. I would not recommend this system to current DS owners. It is really up to you if you want to purchase that broader experience so near the end of a console life-cycle. Especially with the 3DS on the way. It’s OK for me, but seems a little late and outdated. This is what the first DSi should have been. I give it a 3 out of 5.

The screen size is nice idea, that’s what attracted me to the product; but the graphics are terrible. I visited the Nintendo DS website to get a side-by-side comparison. They lie! Don’t let the website full you, the graphics are no where near as good as Nintendo would have you believe. The graphics aren’t great with the normal size DS and it gets worse with the bigger screens. Save your money, stick with the DSi.

this system is great for playing at home because of the screen size, but it might be difficult using it on the go.

Well I returned it. First off let me say I have owned only the original DS and the DS Lite and not the DSI. I bought the burgandy color one and it was a good color. Here are my issues with this portable.
1. Size – It’s really too big and it weighs too much
2. It amplifies the resolution of games that already have low resolution and it does not look good.
3. It costs nearly $200
I have probably in the neighborhood of 30 DS games and also 30 GBA games so I’ve played quite a bit on this handheld. The cost is not justified just to enlarge the screen. The other functions I really have no use for. What may have got me to bite was a slot for the GBA games. What this thing reminds me of is the original DS which was bulky and really a prototype. I expect yet another version of this which will be a little bit smaller and lighter and supporting the GBA slot.
What did I buy instead? Well I got a PS3 with 250 GB drive. I mean to compare what you get for $150 more is overwhelming. I already have a PSP which is a vastly superior handheld already and it interacts with the PS3
If you are considering this purchase I suggest you take a couple of your
own games and load them in this thing and play them and then make a decision.
You might get disappointed otherwise
